Flu Babi, Pariwisata Meksiko Rugi US$ 4 M

Sektor pariwisata merupakan salah satu penghasil devisa terbesar di Meksiko. Sepanjang 2008 lalu, 23 juta turis asing menghabiskan US$ 13 miliar di negara eksotis tersebut. Dengan adanya wabah ini, kerugian dari sektor pariwisata diperkirakan mencapai sekitar US$ 4 miliar.

Namun, Meksiko juga merupakan pusat penyebaran flu babi yang hingga hari ini telah menewaskan 60 orang positif flu A. Virus itu telah menyebar ke 31 negara, hingga Badan Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) menetapkan status kewaspadaan di level 5, setingkat di bawah pandemi.

"Jika penyebaran virus masih seperti ini dan AS belum mengangkat travel warning mereka, kerugian ini diperkirakan baru pulih pada Desember." ujar Menteri Pariwisata Meksiko Rodolfo Elizondo, seperti dilansir Xinhua, Selasa (12/5).

Hingga kini AS masih melarang warganya untuk melakukan perjalanan yang tidak penting ke Meksiko. Sejumlah perusahaan pelayaran seperti Carnival, membatalkan transit ke beberapa pelabuhan Meksiko.

Bahkan, beberapa negara latin untuk sementara terpaksa menghentikan transportasi udara dari dan ke Meksiko. Sekolah-sekolah yang sempat ditutup selama dua pekan mulai melanjutkan aktivitas mereka pekan ini.
